Save Point officially closed

We would like to thank everyone who came down and supported us over the years. You guys helped make Save Point what it was – a great place to hang out with friends, meet new people, and of course, play games. Sadly, we had to close our doors for good, as we have found no suitable place to relocate Save Point. We did have a great time running the best LAN center out there and wish to keep in contact with all of you.
The Facebook page will be here for as long as people keep coming back. Also, the forums on save-point.com will be up and running if you wish to discuss different games, tactics, or meet-ups. If possible, we would also like to promote your tournaments and events if people are willing to help out. Just let us know!
Finally, we will be selling off our computers, monitors, chairs, desks, games and whatever else is left over. We will post a price list soon. Be sure to check here, save-point.com, and your e-mail for more details on that.
Again, thank you for believing in us and making Save Point the awesome hangout it was.

Save Point Closing High St. Location

We would like to thank everyone who has come out to Save Point over the past few years. We have enjoyed providing you with a place to unwind and relax, as well as bringing together one of the best communities of gamers in Morgantown. Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to remain open at our current location. We hope to find another building suitable to our needs, with more space and possibly a kitchen for preparing food. If there is such a location, we will be reopening sometime early next year. If not, we’ve had a great time with you guys and hope that someone else will take up the torch to provide Morgantown with a place for gamers to have a great time. We will miss you all! Our last day open will be the 21st of December.

Mechwarrior Online

Some of you may remember Mechwarrior from years ago. Now, the game has been brought back in a new online format. Players pilot huge, hulking mech as part of a team in order to defeat their enemies. Lasers, missiles, Gauss cannons and more can be customized onto your own personal mech in your own specific form of destructive power. Mechwarrior Online is now in open beta and is easy to get caught up in an hour or two of mech on mech battles. Sarah and I would like to thank everyone who made our Second Anniversary possible. From our regulars who are here nearly every day, to the weekly groups and once a month’ers, we think you’re all wonderful and appreciate you making Save Point your gaming place to hang out. We hope that you understand if we’re a little late opening the store now and then. Starting a new business isn’t an easy task, especially a business that most people do not understand. A place to go socialize and play games with friends doesn’t sound like too odd a concept. It’s no more different than going out to see a movie or eating at a restaurant. Sometimes you just have to get out of the house with friends rather than doing the same thing at home.

In the past two years, many new friendships have been made and great games have been played. Many of you didn’t know each other before Save Point existed, and that’s one thing we love to see. Bringing people together with a common interest while creating a great community is what Save Point is all about.

There’s the fighter and Smash Bros crowd that are a fairly close knit group who, while providing everyone with great bouts to watch, will learn from each other. Frame data, what moves are safe, and how to punish an unsafe move are just some of the secrets this group will share with one another. Our Thursday crowd has been great too. Playing all sorts of team fps games and having a great time. It will sometimes break out into full team vs team mayhem, all just to unwind after a long week of work.

It can be difficult running the store every day sometimes, but we strive to have the latest games out there, drinks and snacks people love, as well as providing a great atmosphere for gamers to hang out and be comfortable in. Save Point would not have been possible these past two years if it weren’t for all of you. So again, we would like to thank you all for making Save Point what it is today, and hope for many more years to come with some of the best gamers around!

Save Point 2nd Anniversary

Save Point has been open for two years now and it’s time to celebrate! Coming up October 13th, we will be having our 2nd anniversary event! Gaming all night and eating cupcakes is what everyone loves! For this over night event, we wanted to give everyone a chance to secure their spots early. Last time there was some confusion and we had to turn some people away due to overbooking. This time, if you wish to secure a spot, you can prepay in the store on our signup sheet. At the time of this writing, 11 people have prepaid for the party and 22 have signed up. There is only room for about 22-24 people, so grab a spot soon. If you have signed up but haven’t paid yet, please prepay before the day of the event or we will go to the waiting list. Anyone who signs up now will be put onto a waiting list. If the people who have expressed interest have not paid by Oct 13th, we will go down the list until we either fill up or get to the end. We would love to have everyone attend this special event so save your spot today!

Starcraft 2 Tournament

Do you have what it takes to win?

We will be hosting our Starcraft 2 Tournament Saturday, September 29th. The event will start at 7:00pm and continue through the evening until a winner is decided.

$20 Entry (50% goes to prize pool)
Entry includes a day pass, so you have time to practice before it starts, and continue playing even if you get knocked out.
Maps will be the current ladder season map pool.

Payout:
1 – 5 First place 100%
6 – 8 Top two 70%, 30%
9 – 15 Top three 50%, 30%, 20%
16- 24 Top four 50%, 25%, 15%, 10%

If we get 16 or more people, the winner will get StarCraft II: Heart of the Swam Collector’s Edition (when it becomes available) in addition to the cash payout.

Fighter Sundays!

Our new hottest event during the week is Fighter Sunday! Fighter gamers from around Morgantown meet up at Save Point to test their skills against one another. Most players bring their own fight stick with them, as controllers just don’t cut it sometimes. The games themselves vary each week. While we theme the evening with a particular fighter, everyone ends up playing whatever game they love best. Everything from Street Fighter, UMvC3 and Mortal Kombat, to Soul Calibur, Tekken and others. All fighting games are represented. There’s no extra cost to playing either; the normal rates are all you have to pay. If you would like to meet up with other gamers in the area who love fighting games, stop by Sundays at 7 and have a blast!

Membership changes, discounts and more

For those that haven’t been down in a while, there have been a few changes at Save Point.

First off, the guest pricing system has been removed. We felt this system was confusing to customers, and may have also turned people away if their guest friend could not also purchase a day pass. Now, Membership is free to everyone and the hourly rate is $4. Day passes are available to everyone for $15.

Facebook Wednesday is now Discount Wednesday. While a lot of people liked the discount on Wednesday, it has become increasingly more difficult to keep track of tagged posts on Facebook. This was also unfair to those who wanted the discount, but either didn’t have Facebook or didn’t have a smartphone to check in. Now, for $10, you can get an all day pass without the hassle of remembering to check in and tag us on Facebook or owning a smartphone.
With the return of school, our hourly rate special is also back! Stop by before 5pm and play for only $2/hr. This is good every day Monday-Friday.

Finally, we changed game of the day to Themed Days. Instead of a random game each day for points, a certain genre, or theme, is applied to each day. For example, fighter games on Sunday, Strategy on Tuesday, etc. You still gain 10 points per Themed Game too. New Daily Events

With more people asking about specific games and events, we have decided to switch up a few things. The game of the day is being replaced with daily events. What does this mean exactly? Instead of a random game each day to play, the week is instead divided up into different genres of games for each day. For example, Sundays will feature fighting games, while Fridays will be for MOBAs. It will be a different game each week for each special day, but more specialized on the individual day. By having daily events, you can plan on coming down on a specific day, say Tuesday, and meet others who like to play strategy games. This is a great way to learn new tricks and strats, and make new friends at the same time! Similar to the game of the day, you will also earn points for participating. If the daily event isn’t your game of choice, that’s fine! We have tons of other fun and exciting games to play on the PCs and consoles.
